Fr. John Twomey of East Troy returned to the Lord on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
Fr. Twomey was born on December 21, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa. He received valedictorian honors from Riverside High School in Milwaukee on 1945; a Bachelor of Arts from St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee in 1949; STL from Gregorian University, Rome, Italy, in 1953; and a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1956 and 1958.
He was appointed to St. Francis Seminary in 1959. He served as president and founder of St. Francis De Sales College (seminary) from 1969 until 1977. He then served as pastor of St. Maryís Parish in Waukesha from 1978 to 1986, before coming to St. Peterís. Fr. Twomey retired in June 1995, but chose to stay in the community where he assisted St. Peterís Church by helping as needed with Mass scheduling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 26, at 12 noon at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 1975 Beulah Ave., East Troy, WI 53120, with a visitation from 10 AM until the time of Mass. Private Interment will be at St. Jeromeís Cemetery in Columbus, WI.
